As a working, single mom and Melbourne resident, Samantha Ramdhanie initially attended Florida Tech on campus, but switched to online.
“Originally I was on-campus but it wasn’t working with my work schedule, so I decided to go online, and I’ve been here since 2011 and I love it.”
Born in Brooklyn, NY, Ramdhanie has lived in Melbourne for 15 years. When she walked across the stage at graduation, her mom, fiancée, son, brother, sister and grandmothers were there to support her.
We interviewed her before her commencement ceremony about her academic journey.
What made you go back to school?
I went back to school because I have a son that I’m fighting for, and I have so many goals I want to accomplish in life. So, this education was the right choice for me.
What do you enjoy about the online program?
What I love about the Florida Tech online program is that it’s convenient with my schedule and teachers are always available to speak with. It’s just easier for my life at this point.
How do you think getting this degree today will make a difference in your life or career path?
Getting this degree today means everything to me. I am planning on going to law school, so this is the stepping stone to get where I want to be in life.
Who supported you in your academic journey?
Through my journey my entire family supported me. They have been by my side since day one. I’ve been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis throughout my journey, so I took some breaks, but they have been supportive the whole time.
My student services representatives helped me the entire way. If I needed a break, they would discuss my options with me and what would happen moving forward. They were always there for me.
Any advice to share with other online students?
Go for it! Don’t let anyone step in your way. If you want to go online or on-campus, it’s all great. Everyone will be there for you – go for your dream. And don’t stop – ever.
